Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (AOW) is comprised of 13 shareholders including 7 companies located in Akita. Since its establishment in April, 2016, AOW has been working on the first large-scale offshore wind power project in Japan on a commercial basis.
This project is to implement the construction, operation and maintenance of the bottom-fixed offshore wind farms at Akita Port (13 x 4.2MW wind turbine) and Noshiro Port (20 x 4.2MW wind turbine) with approximately 140MW in total electric power to be sold to Tohoku Electric Power Network Co., Inc. for 20 years under a power purchase agreement (PPA) and also the onshore substation and transmission lines. In January 2023, the full-scale commercial operation started.
Making every effort in Akita where the development of wind power generation is the most advanced in Japan. Aiming to achieve success of this project through coexisting in harmony with the local community in Akita and to expand offshore wind power generation on a national basis starting from Akita as a place of origin.
