Construction Briefing Session in Akita City

On Saturday 21 November, a Construction Briefing Session was held in Noshiro City (AM) and in Akita City (PM).
The session was hosted by our company with Kajima-Sumitomo Electric Joint Venture and Kinden as contractors also attended to explain the construction outline of this project.
The construction was started in February 2020, but the session has been postponed due to the spread of COVID-19.
In the session, the status of onshore construction currently in progress and the offshore construction scheduled to start in spring 2021 was explained followed by Q&A session with the participants.









The major Q&As are as follows:
 
Q1: Please explain the durability of the foundation against earthquakes.
A1: The foundation has been designed to be durable enough against historically huge earthquakes.
 
Q2: Please explain how to make sure of the verticality at the time of hammering the foundation.
A2: The foundation will be hammered while the verticality is kept measured and adjusted within the tolerance limit.
 
Q3: Please explain the location of the company headquarters.
A3: During construction period, the company headquarters is located in Akita City in consideration of the proximity of Iijima Yard at Akita Port (base of offshore construction) and the related government and municipal offices including Akita Prefectural Office. After commercial operation, a new organization including the location of the company headquarters will be considered while the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) will be managed at the O&M office in Noshiro City.
 
Q4: Please explain the demobilization of the offshore wind farms after expiration of power purchase period.
A4: Under the business plan, the offshore wind farms will be demobilized in 2042, which is 20 years since the start of commercial operation. In terms of the method of demobilization, the most appropriate method will be considered and adopted in light of future technological trends.
 
Q5: Please explain the involvement of local corporations in Akita Prefecture.
A5: We have a basic policy of having local corporations in Akita Prefecture involved in those works which can be done by them and our contractors also do. In reality, a number of local corporations have already been involved. Further, we work on creating collaboration opportunities for local corporations in Akita Prefecture by participating in the Matching Forum in cooperation with Akita Prefecture.
 
Q6: Please explain the job creation for local people.
A6: During construction period, we create jobs through local corporations in Akita Prefecture. After commercial operation, we plan to hire mainly local people for operation and maintenance work to be done at Operation & Maintenance office in Noshiro City for 20 years.
